The Inside scoop for the Eastern Shore Twirler Mom's
Costumes! Costumes! Costumes!
As a Twirl Mom you will likely become a master at costume changes! The costumes you will see will range from flowy to skin tight, from bright orange to neon yellow but most have one thing in common....SPARKLES! You'll get familiar with E600 glue, Swarovski Crystals and everything NEON! If you never had the chance to play dress up or create and design things growing up...now is your chance! One thing is for sure in the twirling world...your twirler will SHINE! Costumes range from SUPER expensive to reasonable. Our team has an inner team costume sale at the beginning of the season and you can get costumes for very reasonable prices. Also, at most competitions, someone, is selling their daughters costume for a reasonable price. But you will definitley see your share of the gorgeous and custom made Kenerly Kreations and Show Off costumes on the competition floor!
Modeling/Marching &
X-Strut Costumes
These costumes are usually the very "Girly" looking costumes because they have a skirt. If it's your very first year then you can use your team costume to doing the Modeling and Marching as long as it has some kind of skirt. Once your twirler becomes more of a seasoned twirler you will want to invest in a Modeling/March costume. They can be the same, you don't HAVE to have a different costume for Modeling and Marching. As you'll soon find out costumes can be very expensive. The two you see above worn by our seasoned twirlers are both Kenerly Kreations and cost $400 - $500 each with a couple more hundred in stones added to them. BUT like I said, if this is your first year you don't have to break the bank. You can wait and make sure that this is something your twirler is going to be serious about doing and invest next year. Eventually when she reaches the Advanced level of twirling she'll wear something that looks like a prom dress! Lots n Lots of hair and make up...and of course fun!
Solo Costumes
Solo costumes are what your twirler will wear once their solo routine is ready to perform at competitions. The solo costumes can vary greatly in price depending on if you buy it used or new and who or what company you buy it from. Again, like with modeling, it's "possible" that if your team costume doesn't have a skirt that you may be able to use it as a solo costume if this is your first year. Their are plenty of groups on Facebook where twirlers from all across the country sell their used solo costumes for reasonable prices. If this is your first year then I would suggest you go this route unless you're able and willing to pay $275+ for a new solo costume. Also, something to keep in mind is that when you order costumes new, they often do not come entirely stoned and you will need to purchase stones and add them yourself in order to get them looking like the ones you see on the competition floor. Regardless of which route you go when buying your twirlers solo costume, remember you don't need one until her routine is ready.
Team Costumes
The team costumes will likely be the only costume that will change every single year. This is listed under the fixed annual expenses ont the expenses home page for refernce. Sometimes we get lucky and the girls team costume can double as a solo or a march/strut/modeling costume during the first year. when your twirler becomes a more experienced twirler and you invest some serious mulah in their costumes you can easily sell them on one of the resale sights on facebook. coach stacy is the one who picks and designs the costumes for the girls. you can always count on them to be fun and age appropriate for your twirler. it's not an easy task trying to find a single costume that works for multiple twirlers but somehow she manages to do it each and every year. above are a few examples of previous costumes and you can check out the blog page to see what this years costumes looked like for all four of our teams.
