Eastern Shore Twirlers
The Inside scoop for the Eastern Shore Twirler Mom's
Competitions
Being on a competitive twirling team means that you travel....oh the places we will go! this is a really fun time and for me it has been a good time to bond with my daughter. nothing like a 4 hour car rideto give you time to get to know one another! Sometimes you can car pool and that helps with costs and conversation "lulls". another thing is that not only do you get to share embarassing stories about your twirlers (he he) but you also get to share the cost of gas! yipee! if it's an overnight type location then you can also possibly share a hotel room. talk about racking up the savings! moving on to the actual competition. this is where you will see your twirler shine. this is the time that you get to see all the hard work that your twirler has been putting in at team practices. watching all the teams from across the region are so fun to watch and also give you an idea of what your twirler's own team is up against. if you stay for the open events you will probably go to bed with the "march" music playing in your head but again, we do what we do for our twirlers. also, where else will you get to see more sparkles than the hope diamond in one place? trust me, there's nothing quite like the competitions we go to. it's quite the memory maker!

Twirltacular Grand Championships - Alabama
This is our first competition of the year. it's usually hosted somewhere just south of birmingham near "The Summit" and a large shopping mall. if you come over on friday and get there early enough make sure you send a text to the other twirl moms and find out when and where everyone is getting together to eat! it may seems silly but our pre-competition dinners are a great time for the twirlers to see eachother outside of practice and performances and is also a great time for the twirl parents to get to know eachother. most of us dont' see eachother often outside of competitions and performances either, so it's a lot of fun! This competition is very similar to the rest of the "local" competitions. If you do any open events then you should expect to be here most of the day.

Twirltacular Extravaganza - Tallahassee
Tallahassee, a bustling little college town. I like coming to tallahassee for our competitions because college towns are fun :) This competition is not too differnt from the ones in Northern Alabama. They run fairly quick and the girls sometimes get sashes and crowns for top placements. One of the great benefits of being in Tallahassee is that you might be able to schedule a private lesson with World champion Karrissa Wimberley. She charges a pretty penny but if your'e there already and you have the time and the means to take a lesson, you won't regret it!

Twirlmania, Disney (optional) - orlando
Disney, whre the magic happens! This event is geared around the magic of disney and lots of fun too! your twirler can participate in different competitive categories and can also be a part of the disney parade. it's quite the experience. because this event is an expensive one, it's not a required performance for our teams. coach stacy tries to make it out every other year to support any twirlers that attend this competition. one of the requirements of twirl mania is that you purchase a 3-day pass for your twirler AND for an accompanying adult. You CANNOT get in the park and participate in any of the events without one. These 3-day park hopper tickets run in the $350/person range and therefore can make it quite the expensive ordeal. but from everyone who's gone, it's quite the magical experience!

Twirltacular Mardi Gras - Fairhope
Twirltacular Mardi Gras is hosted by the Eastern Shore Twirlers. We always put on a great event and it takes hard work and commitment from our wonderful eastern shore parents! The great thing about hosting a competition is that all the hard work is not in vain! We earn money for our twirlers by getting sponsors for our event and then a portion of the proceeds goes to each individual twirler's "account" to fund future competitions, private lessons, monthly tuition etc. It's a great way to help cut the cost of being a competitive twirler. In past years we have hosted this competition at Fairhope Middle School. This year we will be hosting the competition at Daphne High School. Like I said, you want to get in on fundraising and helping at this competition, not only to raise funds for your twirler but also to make our team, The Eastern Shore Twirlers, look good to our visitors. Like I said, we always put on a great competition but we can't do it with out all the help of our twirler parents.

Miss Majorette of Alabama & The South - Wetumpka
These two competitions are held near the end of every school year in may. Both competitions are what you call "Qualifying Competitions" because your twirler hasthe opportunity to qualify for the National Competition held in South Bend, IN at Notre Dame. Our teams always participate in the Miss Majorette of Alabama and if you want or need to attend the Miss Majorette of The South for qualification purposes then by all means, do so. Nationals is an amazing experience and if your twirler has the opportunity to qualify to go, then take it! You won't be disappointed!
